Program Overview

This comprehensive training program equips you with the skills and knowledge to become a Certified WithOurVoice Story Coach. Led by expert storytellers and educators Norah Dooley and Stephanie Ward, you’ll learn the foundations of storytelling, including story structure, performance techniques, and how to create a supportive environment for your students.

The program is designed for educators who want to integrate storytelling methods into their teaching and leadership roles, enhancing their ability to engage and inspire students across various settings. By the end of the program, you’ll be prepared to lead storytelling sessions in schools, youth organizations, summer camps, and more.

Stage 1: Fall 2024 – Foundational Training

  • Course Duration: 14 hours
  • Cost: $150
  • Instructor: Storyteller and Educator Norah Dooley, MEd
  • Key Dates:
    • (2) In-person meetings: Nov. 10 and Nov. 24, (9:30 AM – 4 PM)
    • (1) Zoom workshop: Nov. 17 (9:30 AM – 12:30 PM)
    • Individual consultation via Zoom with Norah
  • Curriculum Includes:
    • Story structure and storytelling techniques
    • Positive responding to students and to story rehearsals
    • Creating a safe, trusting environment for storytelling
    • Developing verbal performance skills, including voice modulation
  • Practicum: 2-hour session with Children at the Well participants
  • Mode of Delivery: In-person and Zoom (Zoom access required)

Stage 2: Spring 2025 – Advanced Children at the Well / Power Tellers Training
*Stage 2 will be available to those who have successfully completed Stage 1 Foundational Training

  • Course Duration: 20-25 hours (PAID classroom training)
  • Cost: n/a: This is a paid internship for those who successfully complete Stage 1 of the Training.
  • Instructor: Stephanie R. Ward, Children at the Well story coach and co-developer of the Power Tellers curriculum
  • What You’ll Learn:
    • Power Tellers curriculum development
    • Observation, writing, and applied storytelling experiences
    • Implementing storytelling in various educational setting

Tuition

Tuition for the 14-hour workshop is $150. Scholarships available; please contact our Treasurer Ritika Jain at ritika (at) withourvoice.org.
There will be an opportunity to more than recoup the tuition through a paid practicum in 2025.

About our Instructor

Norah Dooley is a storyteller, educator, critically acclaimed children’s author and the creator and project director of StoriesLive.org, a high school storytelling curriculum, and story slam program. A co-founder of massmouth.org and the Greater Boston Story Slam series, she taught storytelling to graduate and undergraduate honors students at Lesley University and undergraduates at Tufts University. In fall of 2013 she was a Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Storytelling at Suffolk University. She lectured teachers of English and graduate students on the role of storytelling on language acquisition in Tokyo, Japan as part of a multi-year grant funded by the Japanese government in 2011, 2014 and in Jan 2017. In summer of 2017 she taught storytelling to English faculty from Arsuha Secondary schools in Tanzania as part of the African Storytelling initiative of worlded.org.
